Happy Spring lovelies!
I’m excited to share my forecast for hair and makeup trends for Spring ‘19! This season it’s all about bold and refined, yet relaxed. We are going to see lots of structured haircuts paired with effortless styling and pastel colors, while with makeup we are going to see fresh, foundation-free skin married with strong colors and precise application. It’s all about balancing a clean, non-complicated look while still being fun. Let’s dive into hair first:
As far as cuts go, blunt bobs are going to be very popular this spring. While we saw a lot of shattered, textured bobs this past year, we are returning to very sharp and defined cuts that fall above the shoulder. In general, mid-length and short cuts are in, which affords less maintenance and less time spent styling, and of course help to keep you cool in warmer climates. Following along with this trend of sleek hair, going pin-straight instead of opting for curls or waves is where it’s at. A 90’s look that is being updated for 2019 can include a center part if that’s your thing. Glossy hair finishes pair well with these smooth cuts and styles. Using an anti-frizz serum on wet hair (always use one with a built-in heat protector) and styling with a round brush while blow drying helps to smooth the hair. Follow with a small amount of shine oil on mid-lengths and ends (be sure to use sparingly so it is not too oily in appearance). Another easy and classic look that has been on-trend for some time now is the beloved top knot. It’s a wonderfully chic and “undone” look. You want a sleek base with a fashionably messy bun. Just pull back hair into a high ponytail and twist into a bun, pulling out a few pieces on top as desired, and finish with a texture spray. The final big trends popping up everywhere are big volume (think an updated 60’s vibe, very Lana del Rey) and hair accessories, which go perfectly together. By hair accessories I mean glam, sparkly hair clips, barrettes, and statement bows. Now let’s talk spring hair color! Lilac is big right now, and can be applied in a full-head color service or as a little color pop. Beautiful pastel shades in general are always great spring options for the bold client. If you’re looking for something a little more low-key, a gorgeous buttery blonde is the way to go. While platinum, icy blonde was big the past few seasons we’re going to warm it up a bit with shades of champagne and honey taking over. Ready to dive into makeup?
This season makeup looks are all about balancing natural, glowing skin with bold eyes, lips, and monochromatic looks. Doing a bright lip color in pink with a matching pink eyeshadow or liner with minimal foundation and subtle blush is a perfect spring look. Pink is the color is the season and can be worn in a variety of shades from soft baby pink to a shocking fuschia, whatever your preference is. Foiled lips and eyes (one of my favorites) are making a comeback and are amazing for a night out. Gold metallics especially are where it’s at for this year. If you’re looking to really amp up your makeup, add some colored mascara in shades of blue, pink, purple, or highlighter yellow. It’s a great addition for festival looks or just for fun, day or night. Don’t be afraid to add some flair to your face with a splash of color, it’s finally spring and we need to celebrate!
I hope this gave you a bit of insight as to what will be on trend this season, and don’t hesitate to book with us to update your hair and makeup looks.
